Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)
Eyelid surgery is an aesthetic and functional procedure that addresses not only the signs of aging in the eye area, but also practical difficulties such as limited visual field or chronic eye fatigue. Excess skin, fat pads and drooping eyelids can cause not only a tired or older appearance, but also a feeling of heaviness and discomfort during everyday activities. Indications may include upper eyelid ptosis, fat protrusions or excess skin, which changes the appearance and often affects the quality of vision.
The procedure is most often performed on patients over 35 years of age, when changes begin to become more noticeable, but in the case of congenital predispositions, it can also be performed on younger patients. Blepharoplasty is minimally invasive, usually performed under local anesthesia and does not require a long recovery period. Thanks to modern surgical techniques, a natural and rejuvenated appearance with a long-lasting effect can be achieved, while at the same time reducing the functional difficulties caused by excess tissue in the eyelid area.
How the procedure is performed
The operation is usually performed under local anesthesia and the patient goes home the same day. The surgeon removes excess skin, fat sacs and possibly part of the muscle. For the lower eyelids, an approach from the inside through the conjunctiva can be used, which does not leave a visible scar. It is recommended to have someone with you – it is not advisable to drive after the procedure. Swelling and bruising that occurs usually disappear within a few days.

Pooperační režim
Po zákroku je vhodné spát s hlavou ve zvýšené poloze, vyhýbat se námaze a polohám hlavou dolů, které zvyšují prokrvení. Chladivé obklady urychlují vstřebávání otoků a modřin. Fyzickou aktivitu je vhodné omezit alespoň týden.
Možné komplikace
Dočasné ektropium, tedy odtažení víčka od oka, může být způsobeno otokem a postupně odeznívá. Trvalé komplikace jsou vzácné a obvykle souvisí s odstraněním nadměrného množství kůže či hlubokými jizvami.
